900 years of Chinese painting on exhibition at Elvehjem

Feb. 24, 2004

Almost a millennium of paintings, gathered during half a century, are on exhibition through Sunday, March 14, at the Elvehjem Museum of Art. "Masterworks of Chinese Painting: In Pursuit of Mists and Clouds" encompasses figure, bird-and-flower and the much-venerated landscape paintings covering the many years between about 1200 and the 1960s. Collected by James Cahill, whose son Nick is an associate professor of art history at UW-Madison, the works were used as teaching tools by the elder Cahill at the University of California-Berkeley.
