Photo of Titan Arum with ripe fruit

That rare stinky plant, the titan arum, or corpse flower, now bears a column of red, cherry-sized fruits five months after it grew to 101 inches and bloomed in the Botany greenhouse, attracting thousands of visitors. (Photo: Michael Forster Rothbart)

Photo of school house sculpture

As an art project, graduate student Matt Daehmers, far left, constructed a full-size one-room schoolhouse using 1,400 feet of PVC pipe with ropes. The schoolhouse stood for just one day at about the halfway point of Bascom Hill. Other art projects are popping up as well. Look for a “sound sculpture” by a law student this Friday, Nov. 9, also on Bascom Hill. (Photo: Jeff Miller)
