IAP scholars to help students ‘discover the world and bring it back to Wisconsin’

February 13, 2013 By Kerry Hill

International Academic Programs (IAP), the largest study abroad office at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, has launched a scholarship program that offers individual awards starting at $2,500 to enable more students to study abroad and then share their experiences with the campus community after they return.

The IAP Scholars Program encourages students — including first-generation college students, students going abroad for the first time, and majors in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) — to “Discover the world … and bring the world back to Wisconsin!”

“Study abroad really is a life-changing experience,” says Dan Gold, IAP director. “This scholarship should help make that a reality for many more UW–Madison students.”

All IAP Scholars are required to carry out a “Share Your Experience” project upon their return to campus that helps to promote study abroad. These projects, done under IAP direction, might include assisting with presentations and information sessions, completing a video profile, writing and submitting an article, or participating in campus or local international events or organizations.

“The ‘Share Your Experience’ component of IAP Scholars is particularly rewarding,” Gold says. “Not only do students discover another part of the globe, but they bring their experiences back to Wisconsin, to enrich our community here.”

Students applying to study abroad through IAP during the summer 2013, fall 2013, and academic year 2013-14 are eligible for the IAP Scholars Program. For additional scholarship information, including application instructions, go to the IAP Scholars website. Completed applications must be submitted by March 1.

IAP offers more than 200 programs in more than 60 countries around the world. IAP advisors can assist UW–Madison students in finding the right programs that enhance their academic, professional, and personal goals.
