SAFEride cab service discontinued

June 27, 2012

The UW–Madison SAFEride Cab program that provided late-night taxi rides for UW students will end June 30, 2012.

The last night SAFEride Cab service will be available from 3 a.m. Friday, June 29, until 3 a.m. Saturday, June 30.

“Although continuing the SAFEride Cab program was not feasible at this time, ASM will be working with campus administration, students and community members to holistically address safety issues,” says Associated Students of Madison Chief of Staff Sarah Neibart. “ASM is deeply committed to creating and protecting a safe campus environment for every student.”

ASM has encouraged students to use the existing SAFEwalk program in conjunction with the campus bus system to enhance individual safety on and near campus at night.

SAFEwalk service provides escorted walks within the SAFEwalk boundaries and is available by calling 262-5000. SAFEwalk is available from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. (April 1 through Sept.  30), and 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. (Oct. 1 through March 31).

For more information, including a map of the area where SAFEwalk is offered, see http://transportation.wisc.edu/transportation/safeservices_walk.aspx.
