Bike thefts up, police offer anti-theft tips

May 2, 2012

The UW–Madison Police Department is reporting an increase in campus bicycle thefts.

Police are asking people to be aware of suspicious behavior and report the behavior to police.

They also advise downtown and campus-area bike users to use a heavy-duty bicycle lock, secure bicycles to a bike rack and to lock removable wheels to the frame and the rack with the lock.

If you have information about these thefts, contact UWPD at (608) 264-COPS or Madison Area Crimestoppers at (608) 266-6014.

More safety information can be found at the UWPD website and at the SafeU website.
