Kinesiology Club sponsors 5K Poker Run

April 10, 2012

Get your heart pumping, enjoy the fresh spring air and spend time with friends and family  by joining the Kinesiology Club at its annual 5K Poker Run/Walk on Thursday, April 19.

All proceeds from the run/walk benefit the UW Department of Kinesiology and the Scouts with Special Needs of Dane County, which helps youth with special needs get involved in the community through social gatherings, fun activities and volunteering. Some of the scouts will be at the race cheering on the participants!

“Although the top poker hands receive prizes, the scouts are the true winners,” says Renita Wilkes, UW Kinesiology Club president. “It’s also a great warm-up for races in the spring and summer and you don’t have to be the fastest runner to win a prize.”

Participants are dealt three cards at the start and two more at the finish line. The person with the best poker hand—not the fastest feet—wins. Prizes include gift certificates to local restaurants and stores around Madison.

Rain or shine, the event begins at 6 p.m., with registration starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Natatorium, 2000 Observatory Drive.

Pre-register online by April 16 for $12 or register the day of the event for $15. All Poker Run/Walk participants receive a free T-shirt, food and beverages.

The 2012 Poker Run is sponsored by the UW Kinesiology Club, University Health Services and the Wisconsin Wellness Campaign.
