Finalists named for UW-Madison business services post

Five finalists have been selected in the search for a new assistant vice chancellor for business services at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Darrell Bazzell, vice chancellor for administration, said today.

The finalists are:

  • James “Jim” Butts, associate director for operational services, Wisconsin National Primate Research Center, Graduate School, UW–Madison;
  • Martha Kerner, administrator of the Division of Administrative Services, Wisconsin Department of Administration;
  • Renee Rizzo, vice president of finance/controller, UW Hospital and Clinics Authority;
  • Thomas Sheeran, former chief business officer, Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland, and;
  • Anthony Timmons, director of the Budget and Business Services Bureau, Wisconsin Department of Revenue.

A 13-member search committee of faculty, staff and students recommended the finalists to Bazzell. The new assistant vice chancellor will succeed Don Miner.

“I want to express my gratitude to the search committee for the diligent effort they brought to the task of recommending these finalists,” Bazzell said. “The committee has presented a strong, diverse group of candidates for me to consider.”

The candidates will visit the UW–Madison campus in the next few weeks to meet with faculty, staff and students. Dates for the candidates’ visits are as follows: Sheeran, Friday, Feb. 24; Rizzo, Monday, Feb. 27; Timmons, Thursday, March 1; Butts, Friday, March 2; and Kerner, Monday, March 5. Itineraries for the campus visits, which will include public forums, will be announced when details are finalized.

The assistant vice chancellor for business services leads the Division of Business Services, which provides a wide range of business services to the university’s schools, colleges, departments, faculty, staff and students. The division includes the departments of Accounting Services, Bursar, Internal Audit, Purchasing Services and Risk Management.
