The University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Education will honor some of its very best scholars during an American Education Week 2011 program primarily dedicated to its retiring faculty, distinguished alumni and partner teachers during the week of Nov. 14-18.

On Monday, Nov. 14, the school pays tribute to the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in an afternoon of lectures from professors Paul Bredeson, Allen Phelps and Alan Knox.

The School of Education will also recognize former State Superintendent of Public Instruction Herbert Grover as the recipient of its 2011 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award.

The celebration continues on Thursday, Nov. 17 with lectures from decorated faculty in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, including a talk from Kenneth Zeichner titled “Two Visions of Teaching and Teacher Education for the 21st Century.”

In the afternoon, the school honors 2011 Alumni Achievement Award recipient  James Middleton before turning its focus to “Lessons from Tribal Colleges in Reducing Racism,” the keynote address from Thomas Peacock, associate professor, Winona State University.

The program concludes with an evening dedicated to classroom educators as the School presents its Heideman, Nemec and Rockwell Awards to outstanding Partner Teachers.
