Torphy memorial scheduled for Nov. 10

A memorial event has been scheduled for the late John Torphy, former UW–Madison vice chancellor for administration. It will be held Thursday, Nov. 10 from 3-6 p.m. in Great Hall of the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St., Madison.

The program will include remarks by a number of people with professional and personal ties to Torphy, including: former Wisconsin Governors Martin Schreiber and Tony Earl; UW–Madison Interim Chancellor David Ward; former state Health and Social Services Secretary Linda Reivitz; and others yet to be confirmed. Family members will also speak. The Torphy family will invite other attendees to share their own fond memories of John.

Torphy, a longtime state and university official known for his brilliant mastery of budget issues, died in Tucson, Ariz. on Sunday, Oct. 2. He served as vice chancellor from 1989 to 2003.
