Annual safety report available online

September 29, 2011 By John Lucas

Crime continues to be an important concern for the University of Wisconsin–Madison community. Everyone can play a role in enhancing safety, crime prevention and emergency preparedness.

In compliance with state and federal law, UW–Madison produces a detailed guide to campus safety, with crime statistics and safety resources.

The 2011 Campus Safety Report is now available for download at http://students.wisc.edu.

“Although a victim is never at fault, there are simple steps you can take to raise your awareness and decrease your vulnerability to crime,” says Dean of Students Lori Berquam. “One important step is to be aware of the latest crime and safety resources.”

Berquam is urging students, faculty and staff to sign up for WiscAlerts emergency text messages on personal cell phones. Registration is simple and takes just a few moments. Users can enroll by logging into the My UW Portal and looking for the “Services” tab. Then look for the WiscAlerts logo.

Printed copies of the annual Campus Safety Report can be downloaded as a PDF file directly from the web, or can be requested from the Division of Student Life by calling (608) 263-5700, or in person at 70 Bascom Hall.
