Mobile UW: New and improved

September 8, 2011

Mobile UW from the University of Wisconsin–Madison is getting its first major upgrade.

The app, which launched in December for iPhone and iOS and in July for Android, is launching a 1.1 version on both platforms today (Sept. 8).

Users will be prompted to download the free update to 1.1 from the App Store. Or new users can get a free copy.

The major changes:

  • Real-time bus information: On the Buses tab, select a bus stop close to you. Toggle between scheduled and real-time information for the stop or route with live, real-time Madison Metro bus information. The feature has been one of the most-requested by Mobile UW users.
  • Retina display support for iPhone and iPad for graphics clarity.
  • Bug fixes and app stability improvements.

Use of Mobile UW has skyrocketed with the new academic year. The app has more than 20,000 users worldwide, with the majority using the iOS platform.

In addition to transit information, Mobile UW provides a wealth of useful information for students, faculty, staff, alumni and parents. Users can see up to the minute campus news and events, get directions to campus buildings, watch lectures and see Badgers scores and schedules.

Short demo videos are available for iOS and Android.

The app was developed by staff at the Division of Information Technology and University Communications. Visit mobile.wisc.edu for complete details about Mobile UW along with information for developers.
