Tickets available for ‘An Evening of Celebration’
Aug. 20, 2008
The opening weeks of the academic year are always busy. They are especially busy on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus as it transitions to new leadership in the Office of the Chancellor.
As part of that transition, a very special event to honor outgoing Chancellor John Wiley’s many years of service to the university is planned for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, at the Overture Center for the Arts, 201 State St.
“An Evening of Celebration” will include music, drama and dance performances by UW-Madison students. The event will also help fund need-based scholarships for students at UW-Madison.
The program includes selections from the University Symphony Orchestra; a dance piece choreographed by Li Chiao-Ping, a professor in the Dance Program; a scene from Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye"; and a rousing sing-off from four a cappella groups.
“Over the past seven years, it has been my great honor and privilege to serve as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an institution that so many inspired and talented scholars and leaders have helped build since 1848,” says Wiley. “Although my academic background as a student, researcher, professor and administrator for the last 30 years is firmly rooted in science, I can't imagine a world without the visual and performing arts. A great university provides superb arts programs for talented and aspiring students.”
Tickets start at $15. For tickets or to make a donation to the scholarship fund, call the Wisconsin Alumni Association at 262-9646.
