UW-Madison graduate programs fare well in annual U.S. News rankings

A number of graduate programs and specialties at UW-Madison scored high marks in the 2009 "Best Graduate Schools" edition of U.S. News and World Report.

Not all programs are ranked each year. Here are the UW-Madison rankings that were reviewed by the magazine in 2008:

  • Masters of Fine Arts (MFA): Tied for 21st overall, and No. 1 in the category of printmaking.
  • School of Business: Tied for 29th overall.
  • School of Education: Tied for 12th overall, with programs ranked first in curriculum and instruction and in educational psychology; second in administration/supervision, counseling/personnel services, education policy, elementary education and secondary education; and ninth in special education.
  • College of Engineering: Tied for 15th overall, with programs in nuclear engineering tied for second, chemical engineering tied for fifth, and industrial and systems engineering tied for ninth.
  • Health disciplines: Tied for first in clinical psychology, tied for second in speech-language pathoilogy, 12th overall in occupational therapy, tied for ninth in pharmacy and tied for 12th in social work.
  • Law School: Tied for 36th overall.
  • School of Medicine and Public Health: Tied for 27th overall, 13th in primary care and tied for third in family medicine.
  • Department of Computer Science: Tied for 11th overall.
  • Department of Mathematics: Tied for 14th overall, third in logic, tied for seventh in analysis and tied for 10th in statistics.
  • Department of Physics: Tied for 16th overall and tied for second in plasma physics.
  • Public Affairs: Tied for 14th overall, third in social policy and tied for 10th in environmental policy and management.
