General policies

In the interest of providing a medium for campus units, while preserving Wisconsin Week's primary role as the newspaper of record for the university, we have outlined some policies to clarify when and how we will make editorial and advertising space available.

Reserving advertising space or editorial supplements (inserts)

To reserve space, call the Wisconsin Week office, 262-3846, or e-mail: wisweek@news.wisc.edu.

Acceptable material

Wisconsin Week will accept material produced by and concerning university departments only. Our definition of university departments includes units affiliated with the university whose primary purpose is to provide services for faculty, staff and students. Content of advertising and editorial supplements is subject to approval by Wisconsin Week editors.

Costs

UW–Madison departments that request print space in Wisconsin Week are charged a prorated amount for out-of-pocket costs only, provided that printer-ready material is available. These costs include printing, mailing, managing address database, labeling, sorting and bundling, and delivering. For more on the costs to advertise, see Placing ads and Editorial supplements.

Availability of editorial space

Because of our primary editorial mission, Wisconsin Week can only offer limited space for advertisements.

Generally, only one editorial supplement (or insert) appears in each issue.

Confirmation, deadlines

After reserving space, we ask that you confirm with us the intent to use the space at least three weeks prior to publication.

Final electronic material is due to Wisconsin Week, wisweek@news.wisc.edu, 10 days prior to the date of publication unless editors have agreed to accept material later by special advance arrangement. See publishing schedule.

Cancellation of space reservations

Wisconsin Week reserves the right to rescind its offer of advertising space up to the date of publication if unforeseen circumstances arise. Should print space become unavailable, we would contact the campus unit affected to offer space in a future issue.

A campus unit may cancel space up to three weeks prior to publication. Because of high demand and limited availability for editorial supplements, we ask campus units to advise us of any change in plans immediately so that we may allow other units to use the space made available by cancellation.
