Placing advertising

Wisconsin Week supplements and advertising present an effective and economical alternative to costly individual mailings, mass e-mails and other efforts to reach faculty and staff campuswide.

Wisconsin Week prints many listings free of charge but also accepts paid ads from campus units that want to draw special attention to products, services or messages of interest to faculty and staff. Wisconsin Week regularly publishes advertising that provides information to a campuswide audience. Content of advertising is subject to approval by Wisconsin Week editors.

Wisconsin Week charges to recover only the actual costs of printing and distributing your message to about 24,000 recipients. The audience includes all faculty and staff, many emeriti and retired staff, hospital employees on the campus payroll, and about 1,200 off-campus subscribers including alumni, donors and interested others.

Unlike traditional profit-making newspapers, Wisconsin Week limits the amount of advertising and supplementary editorial in each issue, so if you plan time-sensitive publications, please consider reserving space well in advance.

Rates, policies and other details for advertising and editorial supplements are below. If you would like to discuss these options in more detail, please call Wisconsin Week, 265-9870, or e-mail: wisweek@news.wisc.edu

Acceptable material

Wisconsin Week will accept material produced by and concerning university departments only. Our definition of university departments includes units affiliated with the university whose primary purpose is to provide services for faculty, staff and students. Content of advertising and editorial supplements is subject to approval by Wisconsin Week editors.

Ad sizes, rates

Campus units may purchase one-quarter, one-half or a full page of advertising in Wisconsin Week (rates are listed below).

Subject to the provisions of the section General Policies, advertisers are free to format their purchased space in whatever way they see fit. Color and pictures may be used; typography and design do not need to conform to Wisconsin Week style, although the size of the ad is dictated by the newspaper's format.

A full-page ad may be subdivided among separate programs within the purchasing unit.

Advertising may appear on any page of Wisconsin Week except the front and back pages. Wisconsin Week will not guarantee placement on any particular page. If you wish to use spot or full color, please inform us when you make your space reservation so that we can advise you on specifications to achieve the best print reproduction.

These rates are prorated based on the actual costs of producing the newspaper, including printing, mailing, managing address database, labeling, sorting and bundling, and delivering.
