Caption: A second Titan Arum or "corpse flower", standing 67 inches tall as of July 29, 2002, is expected to bloom later this week in the UW-Madison Botany Greenhouse. This rare and malodorous flowering plant blooms only two or three times during an average 40-year life span and follows a different Titan Arum plant which bloomed at the greenhouse on June 7, 2001.

This illustration shows Titan Arum in bud, left, and full bloom, center. At the base of the spadix (the fleshy central column) are over a thousand tiny flowers. If pollinated, these flowers will produce a huge ball of bright red berries, right.
