During a Grandparents University (GPU) limnology class on July 17, 2009, one of several groups of children and their grandparents collect samples from Lake Mendota and test the water for oxygen and temperature while aboard Limnos, a 28-foot research boat.
The limnology class, led by John Magnuson, professor emeritus of zoology and director emeritus of the Center for Limnology, is just one of the 19 “majors” to be offered during this year's sold-out GPU sessions July 16-17 and July 23-24. The annual outreach program is co-hosted by the Wisconsin Alumni Association and UW-Extension Family Living Programs, and serves more than 850 grandparents and grandchildren from all over Wisconsin and the world.
