Following several weeks of unseasonably cold and wet weather, the temperature soared into the humid, mid-80s in mid-May — during finals week — leaving those on campus to wonder if spring had taken a fast track and summer had arrived.
In search of signs that the campus was truly awakening from its overdue winter slumber, University Communications photographers Jeff Miller and Bryce Richter stood before a midpoint trail maker along the Howard Temin Lakeshore Path near Triangle Marsh — part of UW–Madison’s Lakeshore Nature Preserve — and flipped a coin. That determined who headed left and who headed right for 1.3 miles. Here’s part of what they captured along the way.
