More than 125 UW–Madison international students and their families had their first in-person introduction to Wisconsin agriculture on June 13. They gathered at the third-generation Schultz Family Farm in Cottage Grove, Wis., and before long, they were learning to drive a tractor, perch on bales of hay, ride on a horse-drawn wagon, and more. The event was sponsored by the Schultz family and the university’s International Student Services (ISS). Steve Querin-Schultz, a Dane County cash-crop farmer, and his wife, Martha Querin-Schultz, who works for ISS, hosted a similar opportunity last year. They enthusiastically signed on for a second year — and the smiles they produced make it easy to understand why.
