UW–Madison and multiple local-response agencies worked in tandem on May 26 to conduct a full-scale emergency exercise on campus. Called Operation Badger One, it represented the campus’s largest crisis exercise in several years. Beginning about 16 months ago, as the university planned the details of the drill, additional area agencies asked to participate. “Emergency response organizations got the opportunity to improve their teamwork, which was one of the key pieces of this exercise,” says Michael Newton, emergency management lieutenant for the UW Police Department.
