On Dec. 9, 2009, students converged on Bascom Hill to participate in a massive snowball fight. The event called for members of the university's southeast residence halls to square off against members of the lakeshore residence halls. University classes were canceled and the campus was closed when a winter storm left 14-plus inches of snow.
