WID's THE ART OF CONVERSATION EVENT UNITES SCIENCE AND COMMUNICATIONS EXPERTS

In a transdisciplinary science/communication mashup, the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID) at UW¬-Madison is hosting The Art of Conversation, a series of workshops and an evening talk, featuring national experts from CBS, ABC, Wired and CBS 48 Hours.

Workshops, held on April 16 and 17 during the day in the Discovery building, 330 N. Orchard St., have filled up within 24 hours after being released to campus. The workshops focus on connecting communications experts to Madison students, faculty and staff (primarily in the sciences) who may not normally be exposed to hands-on communications learning in their professional training. Participants will gain several real-world skills, including giving elevator pitches, translating a research finding or experimenting with a science blog.

On April 16 at 7 p.m. in the H.F. DeLuca Forum on the first floor of the Discovery building, the Art of Conversation Evening Talk will explore the behind-the-scenes stories of how conversation leads to discovery. The conversation will include Peter Greenberg, travel editor for CBS; Jennifer Ashton, senior medical contributor for ABC News; Maureen Maher, TV host of CBS 48 Hours; and Steve Paulson, executive producer and interviewer for To the Best of Our Knowledge.

The talk is free and open to the public.

The Art of Conversation is a part of WID's Distinguished Scholars at Discovery program, which invites talented experts to bring fresh perspectives to the institute's core mission and values.
