UW-MADISON, UW-EXTENSION AND UW COLLEGES DAY COMES TO THE CAPITOL
MADISON - Engaging exhibits and special demonstrations will bring opportunities for learning and collaboration as part of UW-Madison, UW-Extension and UW Colleges Day at the State Capitol on Thursday, April 4.
"We are excited to bring the discoveries and scholarship of the UW to the Capitol and to give our legislative leaders and the public an opportunity to see how innovation and collaboration at the UW are having a positive impact on the lives of citizens throughout Wisconsin," says Vince Sweeney, UW-Madison vice chancellor for university relations.
The Capitol rotunda will be filled with a variety of hands-on educational displays and demonstrations allowing attendees to interact with UW-Madison faculty and staff, UW-Extension outreach specialists and UW Colleges educators from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Student tour groups and other Capitol visitors are welcome to participate as well.
"The work of UW-Extension, UW Colleges and UW-Madison reaches every corner of the state and has an impact on economic development. Elected officials may not always get a chance to see that, so we thought it would be good to bring some of our work to them in the State Capitol," said Ray Cross, chancellor of UW Colleges and UW-Extension.
More than 30 exploration stations will offer a fun, up-close way to see UW research in action. Experts, from the microscopic nanoscience to the expansive space science, and from small businesses to plant disease, will answer questions and highlight their discoveries. Live demonstrations will include cheese and sausage making, along with The Weather Guys from the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at UW-Madison, who will make a special appearance from 11 a.m.-noon.
Badger fans will also have the opportunity to see the Heisman Trophy and the Paul Bunyan Axe and meet Bucky Badger in this daylong celebration of the University of Wisconsin.
The day will begin with legislators and their staffs invited to a breakfast hosted by Sweeney and Cross.
The event was originally scheduled for March 5, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
