UW-MADISON ARTS FORECAST: NOV. 20-26
MADISON - Take a break from hectic holiday preparations with a dance concert, film or poetry slam. These and other arts activities take place at the University of Wisconsin-Madison during the week of Nov. 20-26.

CINEMATHEQUE: POLISH FILM FESTIVAL
WHEN AND WHERE: Friday-Sunday, Nov. 20-22, 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Cinematheque, 4070 Vilas Hall, 821 University Ave.
DETAILS: This popular event returns again with five full-length films from 2008 and 2009. Titles include "Ile Wazy Kon Trojanski? (How Much Does The Trojan Horse Weigh?)," "Wojna Polsko-Ruska (Snow White and Russian Red)," "Mala Moskwa (Little Moscow)," "Rysa (Scratch)" and "Handlarza Cudow (The Miracle Seller)."

TANDEM PRESS OPEN HOUSE
WHEN AND WHERE: Saturday, Nov. 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tandem Press, 201 S. Dickinson St.
DETAILS: The Tandem Press will hold a holiday open house, with printmaking demonstrations throughout the day. At 11 a.m., there will be a lithography demonstration by the School of Education's Andy Rubin. At 1 p.m., associate artist Jason Ruhl will give a digital and relief demonstration, and at 3 p.m., artist Bruce Crownover will give an etching demonstration.

DANCE PROGRAM FALL FACULTY CONCERT: SPLASH!
WHEN AND WHERE: Saturday, Nov. 21, 8 p.m., Wisconsin Union Theater, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St.
DETAILS: New York guest choreographer Susan Marshall headlines this year's Fall Faculty Concert along with dance faculty artists and UW-Madison collaborators from art, music, theater, human ecology, neuroscience, geology and extension. Thoughtful, dynamic choreography, live music, video and visually rich lighting, costumes and scenic designs will be showcased. The result? A mind-expanding exploration of artistic, spatial, physical and conceptual relationships - all on one stage for one night only.

WAISMAN CENTER CHILDREN'S THEATRE: PLAY PRODUCTIONS
WHEN AND WHERE: Sunday, Nov. 22, 1 p.m., Waisman Center, 1500 Highland Ave.
DETAILS: An all-children cast brings to life "The Little Match Girl," the beloved and endearing story based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Original script, songs, music and costumes make this a series favorite.

CONCERT BAND AND UNIVERSITY BANDS
WHEN AND WHERE: Sunday, Nov. 22, 2 p.m. (Concert Band) and 4 p.m. (University Bands), Mills Hall, Mosse Humanities Building, 455 N. Park St.
DETAILS: The Concert Band performs "March from Symphonic Metamorphosis" by Paul Hindemith; "William Byrd Suite" by Gordon Jacob; "October" by Eric Whitacre; and "Candide Suite" by Leonard Bernstein/Grundman. Scott Teeple conducts. At 4 p.m., in the University Bands concert, Justin Stolarik will conduct the Overture to "Candide" by Leonard Bernstein; "Irish Tune from County Derry" by Percy Grainger and more. Matthew Schlomer offers "Russian Festival" by Anatoly Lyadov and "Badger Variations" by Jerry Bilik with others. Erik jester also conducts.

THIRD ANNUAL UW-MADISON COLLEGIATE POETRY SLAM
WHEN AND WHERE: Sunday, Nov. 22, 7 p.m., Union Theater, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St.
DETAILS: The Poetry Slam creates a unique campus space for students, faculty, staff and community members' open dialogue and self-expression. Winners of the slam go on to compete in the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational - a national collegiate slam.

ART DEPARTMENT TUESDAY TALK: ALICIA HENRY
WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, Nov. 24, 5:45-6:30 p.m., 204 Educational Sciences, 1025 W. Johnson St.
DETAILS: For this Tuesday Talk Colloquium, Alicia Henry will speak of her work using mixed media on fabric. Henry creates installations consisting of groups of masks and figures made from paper and other materials, cut out into various shapes and layered together. Combining the engaging simplicity of folk art and the psychological presence of African ritual sculpture, these characters explore, in the artist's words, "traditions of play, death and mourning in different cultures."

FACULTY CONCERT SERIES: SOLE NERO
WHEN AND WHERE: Nov. 24, 7:30 p.m., Mills Hall, Mosse Humanities Building, 455 N. Park St.
DETAILS: In this program, Jessica Johnson, piano, and Anthony Di Sanza, percussion,
present the world premieres of "Bluefire Crown VIII" by Les Thimmig and "Equatorial Jungle" by Laura Schwendinger (both faculty members at the School of Music). Other selections include "Inner Rebellion" and "Rebellion" by Steve Rush, with Mark Hetzler, trombone; and "Rain Down" by Lembit Beecher.
