UW-MADISON ARTS FORECAST: NOV. 13-19
MADISON - From three top choral ensembles, a faculty recital and a chamber winds concert to guest performances by a genre-busting star and two masters of Scottish folk tunes, this week is one of the busiest of the year. These and other arts activities take place at the University of Wisconsin-Madison during the week of Nov. 13-19.

DANCE PROGRAM FRIDAY FORUM: LIFE AS A PROFESSIONAL DANCER
WHEN AND WHERE: Friday, Nov. 13, 3:30 p.m., Margaret H'Doubler Performance Space, Lathrop Hall, 1050 University Ave.
DETAILS: Luke Miller and Darrin Wright, contemporary dancers with New York-based Susan Marshall and Company, will talk about choreography, rehearsals, auditioning, touring and surviving in the world of professional dance. Marshall, her artistic collaborators and company members have received 10 New York Dance and Performance Awards (BESSIES) for artistic achievements. A Marshall master work, "Name by Name," will be performed in the Dance Program's Fall Faculty Concert, Splash!, on Nov. 21.

WISCONSIN SINGERS
WHEN AND WHERE: Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14, 7:30 p.m., Wisconsin Union Theater, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St.
DETAILS: One of the best-kept secrets on at UW-Madison is a student-run entertainment company that performs for 50,000 people around the state and nation as "Official Ambassadors of Goodwill." With performances in more than 35 communities each year, these students are rarely seen doing what they love most: sharing the best of themselves on stage with song, dance and big-band sound.

UNIVERSITY THEATRE: 'BLOOD WEDDING'
WHEN AND WHERE: Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 13-14, 19-21 and Dec. 3-5 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. Hemsley Stage, Vilas Communication Hall, 821 University Ave.
DETAILS: "Better dead with the blood drained away than alive with it rotting." Passions run high in this visceral and brooding tragedy. Set in the Spanish countryside, "Blood Wedding" chronicles a tragic couple as they navigate social mores, economic hardship and generational expectations, ultimately facing insurmountable odds in their desire to live and love. By Federico Garcia Lorca and adapted by Lillian Groag. Directed by Norma Saldivar. Pre-performance lecture ay 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19; post-performance discussion on Thursday, Dec. 3.

WIND ENSEMBLE: CHAMBER WINDS

CONCERT CHOIR

DETAILS: The Concert Choir, conducted by Beverly Taylor, will be in concert performing works including motets by Otto Olsson, Stanford and Gibbons, plus the "Lamentations of Jeremiah" by Ginastera; Lukas Foss's "Behold I Build an House"; and Swedish and American part songs and folk songs. Beverly Taylor conducts.

TOSHI REAGON

DETAILS: The soulful sounds of Toshi Reagon and her band, Big Lovely, have captivated audiences across the world. Daughter of Bernice Johnson Reagon, founder of renowned � capella ensemble Sweet Honey In the Rock, Reagon grew up surrounded by music. Her style transcends genres and her performance surpasses all expectations.

CHORALE AND MADRIGAL SINGERS
WHEN AND WHERE: Sunday, Nov. 15, 3 p.m., Luther Memorial Church, 1021 University Ave.
DETAILS: In a shared program titled "Hail and Farewell," the choirs perform separately and together in the splendid acoustic of a neo-Gothic church. Chorale begins with "African Processional" by David Montoya and Carah Reed and "Ave Maria" by Tomas Luis de Victoria. Madrigal Singers perform "Songs of Farewell" by C. H. H. Parry. The combined voices and organist John Chappell Stowe perform "Requiem" by Maurice Durufle. Bruce Gladstone conducts both ensembles.

ALASDAIR FRASER WITH NATALIE HAAS

DETAILS: Reigning supreme among Scottish musicians, the partnership of fiddle player Alasdair Fraser and cellist Natalie Haas brings audiences a blend of traditional tunes. Their music breathes new life into the sounds of Scotland for audiences of all ages. Says the Boston Globe: "Their sound is as urbane as a Manhattan midnight and as wild as a Clakmannan [Scotland] winter."

SPEAKING FOR THE LAND: ALDO LEOPOLD AS A WRITER
WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, Nov. 17, 7-8:30 p.m., Arboretum Visitor Center, 1207 Seminole Highway
DETAILS: As part of the Gaylord Nelson Lecture Series, professor Scott Russell Sanders discusses how Aldo Leopold was a gifted writer as well as a visionary thinker. Focusing on "A Sand County Almanac" and his late essays, this lecture will examine and celebrate Leopold's use of language.
