UW-MADISON ARTS AND EVENTS FORECAST, JUNE 14-27
MADISON - Music is always a big part of summer in Madison. With weekly tunes on the Terrace, the Capitol City Band at Rennebohm Park and recitals on the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Memorial Carillon, listeners can find venues and sounds to fit any taste. These events and more take place between June 14-27.
This combined arts and events forecast will be presented biweekly through the summer. The events listed below are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. For a complete listing of events, visit http://www.today.wisc.edu.

EARLY SUMMER ART EXHIBITIONS
WHEN AND WHERE: Through July 21, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. (Porter Butts and Class of 1925 galleries) or regular building hours (Theater and Lakefront on Langdon Galleries), Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St.
DETAILS: Enjoy a variety of fine art by talented artists from across the country. In the Porter Butts Gallery, view "Good News: Works by University of Wisconsin-Alumni Living in NYC." In the Class of 1925 Gallery, check out the light boxes of "Luminous Gleaning" by Melanie Kehoss. The Theater Gallery features "The Things Dreams Are Made Of" by Patrick Hobaugh, with still life paintings of children's action figures staged in fantastical scenarios. Finally, Peter Castro's "Madiscapes" in the Lakefront on Langdon Gallery uses digital imaging techniques to provide a new photographic perspective on common Madison landscapes.

UNCERTAINTIES IN MEXICO: UPDATE FOR WISCONSIN COMPANIES
WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, June 16, 11:30 a.m., Skyview Room, Fluno Center For Executive Education, 601 University Ave.
DETAILS: Mexico is Wisconsin's second-largest trade partner and faces a convergence of economic, political and social uncertainties. Companies with existing or potential ties to Mexican markets need to understand how this situation may impact their business. This discussion will address the causes and potential solutions to violence on the U.S.-Mexican border, how Mexico's economy is faring in the worldwide downturn, and what steps U.S. businesses can take to maintain a strong export presence in Mexico.

CAPITOL CITY BAND: CONCERTS IN THE PARK
WHEN AND WHERE: Thursdays through August, 7-8 p.m., Rennebohm Park, 115 N. Eau Claire Ave.
DETAILS: Conducted by Jim Latimer, these old-fashioned band concerts in the park are free and open to the public Thursdays at 7 p.m. from June 11 through August. Bring a lawn chair and a friend for listening comfort.

HOT SUMMER NIGHTS: HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR DJ SET
WHEN AND WHERE: Thursday, June 18, 9:30 p.m., Memorial Union Terrace, 800 Langdon St.
DETAILS: Brooklyn-based Hercules and Love Affair will perform a live DJ Set. DJ Nick Nice will open.

CARILLON RECITAL
WHEN AND WHERE: Sunday, June 21, 3-4 p.m., Carillon Tower (outside the Sewell Social Sciences Building, 1180 Observatory Drive)
DETAILS: Lyle Anderson, university carillonneur, performs on the 56-bell Memorial Carillon. Visitors are welcome to climb the tower or listen from the grounds nearby.

INSECTS IN THE GARDEN
WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, June 23, 6 p.m., West Madison Agricultural Research Station, 8502 Mineral Point Road, Verona
DETAILS: Bring your questions and explore the garden in this evening walk with Phil Pellitteri, UW-Extension entomology specialist. Discuss the benefits and problems associated with various insects. Topics will include identification, pest control and life cycles.

INVASIVE SPECIES CONTROL
WHEN AND WHERE: Wednesday, June 24, 10 a.m.-noon, parking lot, Picnic Point (off of University Bay Drive)
DETAILS: Use this opportunity to assist in the reduction of invasive species on campus, and learn more about the Lakeshore Nature Preserve during the summer months. If you spent any time during the past semester in the preserve, this is your chance to show your appreciation for the land. Gloves and tools provided.

COMIX LECTURE: PAUL BUHLE
WHEN AND WHERE: Thursday, June 25, 7-8:15 p.m., L140 Chazen Museum of Art, 800 University Ave.
DETAILS: Paul Buhle, senior lecturer at Brown University and writer about comics, presents "Wisconsin Ideas About Comics! The Madison Underground, and as Far Away as Princeton and Mt. Horeb, in the Growth of Comic Art, 1967-present." Buhle will discuss Wisconsin as a laboratory, if an odd one, for comics.

RHYTHM AND BOOMS NIGHT AND ENERGY AWARENESS CONCERT
WHEN AND WHERE: Saturday, June 27, 6:30 p.m., Memorial Union Terrace (rain location: der Rathskeller), 800 Langdon St.
DETAILS: The Terrace will be busy with a bike-powered stage, a fireworks demo by Bassam Shakhashiri and music from the Kings Go Forth and Diplomats of Solid Sound. Note: Rhythm and Booms' rain date is June 28, but this music will play rain or shine.
