UW-MADISON EVENTS FORECAST: WEEK OF MARCH 23-29
MADISON - The Distinguished Lecture Series continues its stellar 2007-08 series with two presentations on global current events. Sen. Russ Feingold returns to his alma mater to discuss international volunteerism on Monday, March 24, while journalist Gideon Yago and scholar/author Reza Aslan discuss the Middle East, politics, religion and society on Tuesday, March 25. These lectures, and other events listed below, are just a few of the events highlights at the University of Wisconsin-Madison during the week of March 23-29.

Arboretum Walk: Signs of Spring
WHEN AND WHERE: Sunday, March 23, 1-2:30 p.m., Arboretum Visitor Center, 1207 Seminole Highway
DETAILS: Listen and look for signs of spring, such as the return of sandhill cranes and indications of mole and worm activity in the thawed soil.

Julissa Mantilla: Gender Expert of the Peruvian Truth Commission
WHEN AND WHERE: Monday, March 24 (noon, Lubar Commons, Law School, 975 Bascom Mall) and Tuesday, March 25 (9 a.m., 336 Ingraham Hall, 1155 Observatory Drive)
DETAILS: Mantilla is a lawyer, a professor at the Pontifica Universidad Catolica del Peru and an international consultant on gender and international human rights law. She has published on gender and armed conflict, truth commissions, transitional justice and human rights. Monday's lecture will focus on "Gender and Truth Commissions: The Peruvian Case." On Tuesday, she will speak on "Gender Training and Expertise in the Field of Human Rights."

Distinguished Lecture Series: Sen. Russ Feingold

DETAILS: Join Sen. Russ Feingold as he speaks on the importance of international volunteerism in the global community. Feingold, a UW-Madison alumnus, has served in the U.S. Senate since 1993.

'Jeopardy!' Ticket Distribution
WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, March 25, all day, Campus Information Center, Armory and Gymnasium (Red Gym), 716 Langdon St.
DETAILS: America's favorite quiz show rolls into the Kohl Center to tape the 2008 College Championship on April 11-12, 2008. A limited number of free student, faculty and staff tickets will be distributed for the tapings. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A valid UW-Madison ID is required to claim tickets, and tickets are limited to four tickets per person.

Jewish Heritage Lecture Series: Kutler Lecture: "A Generation of No Silence: Post-World War II American Jews and the Memory of the Holocaust"

Greenbush Day Celebration
WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, March 25, 4 p.m., Welcome Center, 21 N. Park St.
DETAILS: Honoring one of Madison's most culturally diverse and historic neighborhoods, this year's celebration will feature music and dance performances by Blackstar Reggae founder Prince Mantee, the Italian Folk Dancers of Madison and Viv Ncaus, a group of elementary school girls who perform traditional Hmong dances in traditional Hmong clothing. The program also will include storytelling about life in Greenbush, along with several exhibits and light refreshments.

Mineral Exhibit Reception: UW Geology Museum Unveils New Exhibit
WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, March 25, 7 p.m., UW Geology Museum, Weeks Hall for Geological Sciences, 1215 W. Dayton St.
DETAILS: In its 160 years of existence, the UW-Madison Geology Museum has never before received a mineral donation like the one recently gifted by retired UW-Madison electrical engineering professor R.A. Greiner. With 684 specimens and an appraised value in excess of $115,000, the R.A. Greiner Mineral Collection is the most impressive set of minerals the museum has ever received. The Geology Museum is hosting a reception to unveil a new exhibit with dozens of minerals from this donated collection.

Distinguished Lecture Series: Reza Aslan and Gideon Yago

DETAILS: Reza Aslan, an internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions, as well as author of "No God But God," joins Gideon Yago, former MTV news correspondent and award-winning journalist, for a discussion of Middle East politics, religion and society.

Global Health Seminar Series: Globalization and Emerging Infectious Diseases

DETAILS: Nina Marano, associate director for veterinary public health in the Division of Bacterial and Mycotic Diseases of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), talks about how, in the current era of modern transportation, we can get around the world in less than an incubation period for most infectious diseases: Think of SARS and now avian influenza. This talk will describe CDC's role in detection and prevention of emerging infectious diseases in relation to global travel and transportation.
