CAMPUS ARTS OPPORTUNITIES: FEBRUARY 15-21

MADISON - The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music presents an exciting mix of concerts during the week of February 15-21 by guest and faculty artists, including two of Christopher Taylor's 10-concert series of Beethoven piano sonatas and innovative new works by piano professor Todd Welbourne that feature electronic instrumentation and scores.

DANCE PROGRAM FRIDAY FORUM: RESEARCHING DANCE ACROSS CULTURES

DETAILS: Dance program visiting lecturer Mary Hayne will discuss cultural theories used in the research of dance - with particular focus on cross-cultural and multi-cultural issues.

THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES

WHEN AND WHERE: Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16, 7:30 p.m., Barrymore Theatre, 2090 Atwood Ave.

DETAILS: As part of the 2008 V-Day Campaign, the Undergraduate Theatre Association and the Campus Women's Center present this benefit production to raise funds for Domestic Abuse Intervention Services. Based on interviews with more than 200 women, no one who sees it will ever look at a woman's body, or think of sex, in quite the same way again.

COST: $15 in advance; $10 students

SCHOOL OF MUSIC CONCERTS: BEETHOVEN PIANO SONATA SERIES

WHEN AND WHERE: Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16 (different programs), 8 p.m., Mills Hall, Mosse Humanities Building, 455 N. Park St.

DETAILS: On Friday, UW-Madison music professor Christopher Taylor performs the second in his 10-concert series of the complete piano sonatas by Beethoven, with Opus 79, Opus 7 and Opus 31, No. 3. Saturday's performance, the third in the series, features Opus 27, No. 2, Opus 28 and Opus 101.

COST: $12 general, $9 seniors and students, UW-Madison students free with ID

SCHOOL OF MUSIC GUEST ARTIST SERIES: THE MARSEILLE (FRANCE) WOODWIND QUINTET

DETAILS: Performing music by Milhaud, Debussy, Mozart and others. The quintet is fulfilling an exchange with UW-Madison's Wingra Woodwind Quintet, which visited Marseille in 2006.

ART DEPARTMENT VISITING ARTIST SERIES: CRISTI RINKLIN AND ANDREW MOWBRAY

WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, Feb. 19, 5:40 p.m., 204 Educational Sciences, 1025 W. Johnson St.

DETAILS: Cristi Rinklin, a visiting artist to the American Academy in Rome, will discuss her multimedia paintings and installations. Andrew Mowbray will discuss how he coaxes old materials into new existences, including a parachute from found umbrellas, quilts from Tyvek, and fishing lures from hair and synthetic fur.

ART ON STAGE: A CHAZEN MUSEUM OF ART/MADISON REPERTORY RECEPTION
