RE: TIP/SUBMERSIBLE TESTING CHANGE IN LAKE MENDOTA

The testing today of the ENDURANCE submersible, the remote-controlled NASA submarine to be deployed in Lake Mendota for a series of tests this week, will take place near the University of Wisconsin-Madison Limnology Lab and not the Alumni Pier, as was previously scheduled.

Testing will continue as scheduled on the lake near the lab, 680 N. Park St. A 1 p.m. press briefing will take place as scheduled today in the Memorial Union's Old Madison Room. John Rummel, head of NASA's astrobiology program, and Peter Doran, the University of Illinois at Chicago scientist in charge of the ENDURANCE project, will briefly describe the project, which is a prototype for a submersible NASA hopes to send to the frozen oceans of Europa, one of Jupiter's moons.
