UW-MADISON EVENTS FORECAST: WEEK OF FEB. 10-16
MADISON - Interdisciplinarity takes a political turn in the week before Wisconsin's primary election. All are welcome at this week's Chaos and Complex Systems Seminar as political science professor Charles Franklin explains how poll data from nominating primaries uses nonlinear dynamics to predict primary results. This fascinating discussion is only one of the events taking place on campus during the week of Feb. 10-16.

ARBORETUM WALKS
WHEN AND WHERE: Sunday, Feb. 10, 1-2:30 (About Mammals) and 1:30-2:30 (Animal Tracks), Arboretum Visitor Center, 1207 Seminole Highway
DETAILS: Two walks will help nature lovers gain new perspectives on winter. In "About Mammals," a naturalist will explain how Wisconsin mammals get through winter without coats, boots, hats and gloves to keep them warm. "Animal Tracks," designed for families, describes how to spot tracks and trails in the snow and mud.

UW SPACE PLACE GUEST PRESENTATION
WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7-8 p.m., Villager Mall, 2300 S. Park St.
DETAILS: "Circinus X-1: An Ambitious Star That Wants to be a Black Hole." Sebastian Heinz, astronomy department, tells how active black holes typically emit powerful jets of matter and radiation. It now seems that neutron stars can do this too, but astronomers are not sure how. Heinz will describe this new phenomenon and discuss some possible explanations.
