CAMPUS ARTS OPPORTUNITIES: FEBRUARY 8-14
MADISON - Whether you're single, partnered or just want a fun evening out with friends, come out to the Union Theater on Valentine's Day to see some of the best that student performance groups have to offer. From classical string quartets to a capella and spoken word, this performance has something for everyone. The Student Performance showcase is just one of the many arts events taking place during the week of February 8-14.

ACADEMY OF ANCIENT MUSIC WITH RICHARD EGARR
WHEN AND WHERE: Friday, Feb. 8, 8 p.m., Wisconsin Union Theater, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St.
DETAILS: One of the world's foremost period-instrument orchestras, the AAM is pre-eminent in the music of 1600-1850. The orchestra was the first to record all of Mozart's symphonies on period instruments and has since recorded the complete piano concertos and symphonies of Beethoven, too. Part of the Wisconsin Union Theater Concert Series.
COST: $38-18 general; $10 UW-Madison students; $28 pre-concert dinner.

DETAILS: The Onion describes this band as "a particularly catchy blend of revved-up alt-country and rock, with rough-edged vocals lending a slightly Tom Waits-ian feel."

SCHOOL OF MUSIC GUEST ARTIST SERIES: ROBERT MCDONALD, PIANO
WHEN AND WHERE: Sunday, Feb. 10, 2 p.m., Mills Hall, Mosse Humanities, 455 N. Park St.
DETAILS: Pianist Robert McDonald performs works by Bach, Schumann, Nielsen, Debussy and Faure. McDonald has performed extensively as soloist, recital partner with Isaac Stern and Midori, chamber musician with the Juilliard Quartet and soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony, among many others.

BEETHOVEN PIANO SONATA SERIES

DETAILS: Renowned pianist Christopher Taylor inaugurates his 10-concert series with Opus 2, No. 1; Op. 27, No. 1; and Op. 110. Taylor, associate professor at the School of Music, will perform all 32 Beethoven sonatas during the spring semester.
COST: $12 general, $9 seniors and students, UW-Madison students free with ID.

INTERNATIONAL CINEMA: SEVEN BEAUTIES (PASQUALINO SETTEBELLEZZE)
WHEN AND WHERE: Thursday, Feb. 14, 7:30 p.m., Play Circle Theater, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St.
DETAILS: Pasqualino (played in a master performance by Giancarlo Giannini) escapes from the army during World War II and is sent to a concentration camp, wherein much of his tale is told through flashbacks.
