CAMPUS ARTS OPPORTUNITIES: JANUARY 25-31
MADISON - The University of Wisconsin-Madison's own campus masters deck the walls of the Chazen Museum this week, as the Department of Art presents its 2008 Art Department Faculty Exhibition from Jan. 26- Mar. 30.
In addition to an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 25, faculty members will offer midday gallery talks about their work through the exhibit's run. This landmark exhibit is only one of the campus arts activities presented from January 25-31.
This weekly digest highlights upcoming opportunities for the public to experience the university arts in campus theaters, museums, galleries and concert halls. All events are free unless otherwise noted. For a complete list, visit the Arts Institute calendar at http://www.arts.wisc.edu/cal.php.

2008 ART DEPARTMENT FACULTY EXHIBITION: OPENING RECEPTION
WHEN AND WHERE: Friday, Jan. 25, 6-8 p.m. (exhibition runs through March 30), Chazen Museum of Art, 800 University Ave.
DETAILS: Join faculty and other members of the community to celebrate. Enjoy refreshments and a cash bar while viewing the paintings, sculpture, graphics, ceramics, textiles, woodwork, metalwork, glass, prints and photographs, as well as performance, video and computer art, on view in the Chazen galleries.

RATHSKELLER MUSIC: VERBAL KENT WITH DEFCEE, DLP AND FALL GUYS

DETAILS: With a near death experience providing the prime motivation for the project, Verbal Kent's "Move with the Walls" breaks down the reality of a recovery in progress.

RATHSKELLER MUSIC: EASTERN BLOK

DETAILS: The "restlessly innovative work" (LA Times) of Serbian guitar virtuoso Goran Ivanovic has taken a new twist: a pan-cultural band interpreting both classic Balkan melodies and original music composed by Ivanovic.

ART DEPARTMENT VISITING ARTIST SERIES: JUSTINE KURLAND

DETAILS: The visiting artist colloquium opens the spring semester with photographer Justine Kurland. Kurland's style of photographic mannerism offers staged realities in outdoor environments and collaborations with adolescent models in order to explore the social landscape of girlhood.

WISCONSIN UNION THEATER WORLD STAGE: HUGH MASEKELA'S CHISSA ALL-STARS
WHEN AND WHERE: Thursday, Jan. 31, 8 p.m., Wisconsin Union Theater, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St.
DETAILS: South African Hugh Masekela has played with Miriam Makeba, Fela Kuti, Abdullah Ibrahim, Paul Simon and many others. His 1987 hit "Bring Him Back Home" became the anthem for Nelson Mandela's world tour following his release from prison in 1992.
COST: $34-18 general, $10 UW-Madison students with ID, $27 pre-concert dinner.
