Caption: Message of his excellency Nelson Dewey. Wisconsin was admitted to the Union on May 29, 1848. The first Wisconsin State Legislature convened June 5, and two days later the state officers were sworn in. Gov. Dewey delivered this message to the Legislature one day later on June 8.
