The two images above show a cross-sectional view of the heart as it contracts,
or squeezes, blood from the ventricle. The image on the left is an echocardiogram,
which distinguishes between muscle and blood and provides information on
heart muscle motion. The image on the right is a cardiac elastogram, which
shows the parts of the ventricle that are contracted (red regions) and relaxed
(blue regions). The images were taken from a patient with Coronary Heart
Disease, or CHD.

The animation on the left is an echocardiogram taken during one complete
cardiac cycle, or heartbeat, of a patient with CHD; it shows the heart ventricle
as blood flows in (relaxation) and out (contraction). The animation on the
right is a cardiac elastogram taken during the heartbeat of the same patient;
it shows the regions of the heart that contract (red) and relax (blue).
