It was a record-breaking day for the second-ranked Wisconsin men's track and field team. The Badgers won their seventh straight Big Ten Conference indoor championship with 120 points, tying a league record for consecutive indoor titles. Wisconsin tied the run by Michigan from 1934-40.

According to recent statistics, Facebook tallies 250 million hits every day and ranks ninth in overall traffic on the Internet. Students using online networks to connect with friends and fellow classmates may also be at risk for issues such as stalking, harassment and identity theft. Profiles are accessible to the majority of the public, and what is put on these sites can become public knowledge.

WID Seed Grant winners named

The research program of the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery is under way, as officials announced the results of a campuswide competition for the institutes' Discovery Seed Grants. The eight winning research proposals are a diverse set of cutting-edge research projects that move the new $150 million Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery toward its goal to be an innovative public/private crucible for interdisciplinary research.

Influenza activity is now considered to be "widespread" in Wisconsin, indicating the peak of this year's influenza season. Practitioners at University Health Services are seeing many students with the flu. To minimize chances of getting sick, students are encouraged to get a flu shot and practice basic hygiene.

Special 'Dane Dances!' benefits student scholarships

Dane Dances!, the city's popular summer rooftop dance party, moves inside this weekend for a special benefit event. Milwaukee's In Black N' White will heat up the stage with soul, rock and reggae, and SambaDa, from California, will keep it lively with infectious Afro-Brazilian samba funk dance grooves. The event is a benefit for scholarships for First Wave students, an urban arts and spoken word residential learning community opening this fall on campus. 8 p.m. Saturday, March 3, Great Hall, Memorial Union. Cost: $10 students with ID, $20 general.

Morgridge Center celebrates 10th anniversary

The Morgridge Center for Public Service is recognizing its 10th anniversary this spring with a public conference that will highlight university service at the local, state and national levels. The conference runs 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday, March 9, and 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 10, in the Red Gym and Memorial Union. Registration is required by March 1. The cost is $25 for the public, but free to registered UW-Madison students.

Students can take advantage of many free classes offered by the Division of Information Technology. See some of UW-Madison's finest student artworks at the 79th Annual Student Art Show, a juried exhibition of works by current students that is open to the public March 16-April 24 in the Memorial Union. Students may submit their work to the Art Committee 12-4 p.m. Friday, March 9, or 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 11.
