Dean of students finalists to visit

Three finalists aiming to become the new dean of students will visit campus during the next month to meet and interview with students, administrators, faculty and staff. The first visit is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 25, in the MSC Lounge, Red Gym.

Regents host forum on comprehensive admissions

The UW System Board of Regents is hosting an educational forum on Monday, Jan. 29, on a proposed move to a comprehensive freshman admissions policy. The session will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the Pyle Center, 702 Langdon St. Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in person and listen to feedback from around the state, carried by videoconferencing. In addition, a special Web site has been launched for the public to review a policy draft and share comments.

UW-Madison slips to No. 2 in Peace Corps volunteers

For the first time in more than 20 years, UW-Madison is not the top-producing institution for Peace Corps volunteers. The university, which had 106 alumni serve in the program last year, narrowly lost the top position to the University of Washington, with 110 alumni participants.

UW-Madison fourth in Directors' Cup

UW-Madison is tied for fourth in the Division I Sports Academy Directors' Cup Standings compiled after the final fall seasons. Wisconsin's highest finish of the fall season was an NCAA runners-up performance by the men's cross country team, while women's cross country finished at No. 4, football ended the season at No. 6, and volleyball finished No. 11. Picking up where the fall teams left off, Badger men's basketball is ranked No. 2 in the nation by the Associated Press poll.

CCTAP helps students with child care fees

Student-parents enrolled at UW-Madison may qualify for financial assistance for child care fees through the Child Care Tuition Assistance Program (CCTAP), a program intended to help eligible low-income students obtain quality child care. Lighten Up Wisconsin open to students

Madison's American Idol nominee to perform

Sixteen-year-old La Follette High School junior Denise Jackson, recently selected by the American Idol judges to perform in the first phase of the Hollywood competition, will perform on campus Thursday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Union's Great Hall. Admission is free but will be limited to UW-Madison students, faculty, staff, Union members and guests.
