Students nominated for chancellor search

The Associated Students of Madison has nominated two current students to serve on the search and screen committee that will help identify the next chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They join a committee made up of a total of 23 students, faculty, staff, administrators, community members and alumni who will be asked to identify five unranked finalists for the position.

Start the semester with fresh batteries, fire safety information

In the wake of two serious fires affecting UW-Madison students, a coalition led by the Offices of the Dean of Students and the Madison Fire Department is urging students to take time to check their smoke detectors to ensure that the units are operating, and never disable the unit or "borrow" the battery for other uses. To help kick off the campaign and give student smoke detectors a boost, 1,980 free Rayovac 9-volt batteries will be distributed to UW-Madison students on a first-come, first-served basis as part of Fire Safety Awareness Week.

Computer programming team places first in regional competition

The UW-Madison computer programming team "Red No. 40" beat 198 other teams to place first in the North Central Regional Competition of the International Collegiate Programming Competition in early November, qualifying the team to compete in the World Finals in April.

Tango Fire ignites Wisconsin Union Theater

Global Connections offers free Tango lessons, dance

The Wisconsin Union Directorate’s Global Connections committee sponsors this evening of free tango dancing and instruction. Intermediate lessons are at 6 p.m., beginner lessons are at 7, and the dance begins at 8. Great Hall, Memorial Union, Thursday, Jan. 24.

Registrar: Last day to enroll; last day to drop classes

Friday, Jan. 25, is the last day to enroll without a $25 late fee, and Wednesday, Jan. 30, is the last day to drop classes without a DR or W appearing on transcripts.

Basketball entries are taken on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 29-30, in the SERF and Natatorium program offices during business hours.
