Chancellor invites campus to brainstorm opportunities, challenges in higher education
Chancellor Carolyn "Biddy" Martin is inviting all students, faculty and staff to participate in a fourth campuswide brainstorming session exploring the opportunities and challenges facing UW-Madison in a recessionary economy. 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, Plenary Room, 1310 Grainger.
New Student Services Tower ready for spring semester
Returning students, faculty and staff are invited to visit the new Student Services Tower at 333 East Campus Mall. The tower represents the first time the university has had a true hub for its student services and activities.
'Wisconsin Reflections' invites campus to taping with Doyle
The Big Ten Network's interview show "Wisconsin Reflections" is looking for students to be in the audience as host John Roach talks with Wisconsin's governor about his family, college life and time he's spent in Wisconsin politics. Audience members can ask questions of the governor as well. 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2000 Vilas Hall.

WUD Art Committee Presents 'Dial Up Art'
The Wisconsin Union Directorate Art Committee has launched a new cell phone audio guide, Dial Up Art. This interactive guide provides Union Gallery visitors with a do-it-yourself tour of the galleries, complete with artist biographies, interviews, and explanation of processes and artworks, as well as exhibition critiques written by UW-Madison students. This innovative cell phone audio tour, first of its kind to be offered at an art gallery in Wisconsin, will be available for all the Union exhibitions slated to open Jan. 30.
The Wisconsin Experience in Motion: Physical Therapy in Belize
As part of her semester break, Dean of Students Lori Berquam accompanied three UW-Madison faculty members and four students on a two-week service-learning trip to Punta Gorda, Belize. The educational travel fellowship was aimed at giving students in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation’s physical therapy program the opportunity to develop community education programs on disability and to perform service projects for the community and for families of those with disabilities.

Campus Poetry Slam to send winners to national competition
Attendees can hear the contestants or try to win a spot for themselves on Madison's slam poetry team. The winners of the Campus Poetry Slam will earn a spot on the regional slam team, which will compete in the National Poetry Slam, to be held later this year in Madison. 7-11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, TITU Memorial Union.
Distinguished Lecture Series hosts Mideast journalist
See the documentary film "Live From Bethlehem," then hear a lecture by Amira Hanania, a lead journalist for the only independent news network in the Palestinian territories. 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, Wisconsin Union Theater; a reception follows the lection (TITU Memorial Union). Folk Ball Festival draws musicians from around the world

Cinematheque kicks off new semester
The Cinematheque's spring 2009 season starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, with "Boy" (Shonen), the first film of its Nagisa Oshima series. The kickoff continues with the latest installment of the Max Ophüls series at 7:30 on Saturday, Jan. 24, with "The Reckless Moment." Both films will be screened in UW Cinematheque, 4070 Vilas Hall.
93.1 JAMZ puts on birthday bash in Union Theater
Madison hip-hop station 93.1 JAMZ is staging its birthday celebration in style this year, featuring Bobby Valentino, Slim from 112, Mims, Keri Hilson, Paula Deanda and more. 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, Wisconsin Union Theater. Cost: $20 balcony, $25 floor.

Friday, Jan. 23, is the last day to enroll without a $25 late fee, and Wednesday, Jan. 28, is the last day to drop courses or withdraw without a DR or W on transcript.

Center for the First-Year Experience seeks applicants
The Center for the First-Year Experience invites applicants for positions as new student leaders, orientation assistants and peer leaders.
