Choosing a chancellor: Priorities for the next campus leader
With a change at the top coming as soon as summer 2008 and a campus reaccreditation project in full swing, it's prime season to discuss what the future holds for UW-Madison. In that spirit, Wisconsin Week, the faculty and staff newspaper, asked 14 people from the campus and community to offer some of their priorities for the next chancellor. Others are invited to submit their own ideas about chancellor priorities to leadershipideas@news.wisc.edu. (See "Around Campus" for information about open forums addressing the search process.)
Resources available in wake of NIU shooting
University officials are offering condolences and resources in response to the Feb. 14 tragedy at Northern Illinois University. For more information on how UW-Madison prepares to protect against and respond to incidents involving student health and safety, visit the University Police Department Web site or visit a resources page devoted to safety issues in the wake of the 2007 Virginia Tech shootings.

In the past year and a half, the Table Tennis Club has gone from being a 20-member student organization to a top-ranked official club sport with nearly 100 members. The club has also added a women's team that won the Midwest regional tournament last semester.

Catheterized system wins annual engineering creativity prize
A catheterized system to sense bladder pressure and control urine flow to prevent incontinence won the $10,000 top prize in the Schoofs Prize for Creativity, an annual UW-Madison invention competition.
Recent graduate wins prestigious scholarship
Rishi Wadhera, class of 2006, is one of 45 American students awarded a 2008 Gates-Cambridge Scholarship. Established in 2000 through a $210 million donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this international scholarship program brings outstanding graduate students from around the world to study at the University of Cambridge.
UW-Madison makes Presidential Honor Roll for community service
UW-Madison was named to the 2007 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll With Distinction for its efforts to promote community service and service learning on campus.
Students plunge into Lake Monona, support Special Olympics
Groups of UW-Madison students and community members jumped into the ice-cold water of Lake Monona during the annual winter Polar Plunge on Feb. 16. The plunge is a pledge-based fundraising event supporting Special Olympics Wisconsin.

Open forums seek campus, community views on next chancellor
Public forums designed to elicit campus and community perspectives on the qualities and talents needed in the next UW-Madison chancellor will be held during the coming month. The next forum is from 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Memorial Union's Main Lounge.

This production is based on Toni Morrison's beautiful, tragic story of childhood innocence lost in her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. "The Bluest Eye" will run Friday, Feb. 29-Saturday, March 15, at Mitchell Theatre in Vilas Hall.
