Dean of Students Berquam addresses campus, sets memorial gathering
The catastrophic loss of life that occurred on the campus of Virginia Tech Monday has affected the nation, including students, faculty and staff on this campus. A nondenominational gathering will be held tonight at 5:30 in Room 272 Bascom Hall to memorialize the victims of the tragedy and show support for VT.

Longtime Registrar employee Sharon Pero dies at 58
Sharon Pero, assistant registrar for Timetable and Classroom Scheduling in the Office of the Registrar, died suddenly at her home over the weekend of April 14-15. A 35-year employee of the university, Pero has long been responsible for overseeing the extraordinarily detailed University Timetable, which serves as the master schedule for thousands of classes. Her accomplishments were so valued that Pero was slated to receive a 2007 Academic Staff Excellence award on May 14.

Students can still enter Wiley's essay contest
What would you tell new students about life on campus? What wisdom have you gleaned from experience that can help others? Chancellor Wiley is again asking students to write essays about life at the university, with the winner given the opportunity to address 5,500 new students from the floor of the Kohl Center at the Chancellor's Convocation on Aug. 31.

The campus will host a number of events this week in commemoration of Earth Week 2007.
UHS Health Tip: Register for Kinesiology Club's Poker Run/Walk
Continuing a tradition of making exercise fun and accessible for everyone, the Kinesiology Club has organized the 11th Annual 5K Poker Run/Walk. The grand prize goes to the participant with the highest poker hand, not the fastest time. 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, Natatorium. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m.

See a state fair done Badger style
Bucky's State Fair features a mechanical bull in the middle of campus for the daring to take a ride. Student organizations host numerous old-fashioned fair booths and interactive games, and attendees can enjoy performances by the Marching Band, Wisconsin Singers, Hypnotiq, Dance Elite and more. Friday, April 20: Last day to withdraw without penalty
The last day for undergraduate students to withdraw from classes without academic penalty is Friday, April 20; it is also the last day for graduate students to drop courses or convert courses from credit to audit.
Register for Crazy Legs Classic
Register online for the annual Crazy Legs Classic 8K run and 2M walk, judged one of America's Best 100 Events by Runner's World magazine and the No. 1 Favorite Local Running Event for over ten years by Wisconsin State Journal readers. Register before Friday, April 20 ($20 runners, $25 walkers) to be eligible for prizes. Registration after April 20 is $35 runners and $25 walkers. The event takes place Saturday, April 28.

Take the Community Plunge
Community Plunge 2007 is a campus service event celebrating National and Global Youth Service Day. Volunteers register to participate on the Web site and receive free breakfast, a T-shirt or bandana, and transportation to a volunteer placement in Madison. The breakfast reception is in the Red Gym's Morgridge Center from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 21.
