Fund for late professor puts Engineers Without Borders in the black
Peter Bosscher, a professor of civil engineering who died of cancer in November, was long the guiding force behind the campus chapter of Engineers Without Borders. His legacy continues to reward the UW-Madison chapter, as a memorial fund established in his honor has enabled the group to become debt-free in 2008.

The Women’s Studies Program has evolved into a new department, the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies in the College of Letters and Science.
Students reminded to check smoke detectors
Madison Fire Chief Debra Amesqua urges all students to take a few moments to assess the fire safety of their homes, rooms or apartments. Smoke alarms should be tested to ensure they are working every month. The battery in a smoke alarm should be changed when the low battery alarm sounds, twice a year or when you're unsure of how old the battery is.
Provost asks students to complete NSSE Survey
Recently, many undergraduates received an e-mail from Provost Patrick Farrell asking them to respond to the NSSE survey. For these studies to accurately reflect the experiences of students at UW-Madison, students are asked to complete this survey. Results of the survey should help to improve undergraduate education and student life on campus.

A limited number of complimentary tickets for the taping of the "Jeopardy!" 2008 College Championship will be distributed to faculty, staff and students on a first-come, first-served basis starting on Tuesday, March 25.
Iowa political reporter, best-selling business writer to visit
Two upcoming writers in residence for late March and early April are a political writer who provided wall-to-wall coverage of the yearlong campaigns leading up to the Iowa presidential caucuses and an author of a book detailing Wal-Mart's pervasive effect on society.
Distinguished Lecture Series pairs religious scholar, MTV VJ
Reza Aslan, an internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions and author of "No God But God," joins Gideon Yago, former MTV news correspondent and award-winning journalist, for a discussion of Middle East politics, religion and society. Free tickets for students, faculty and staff are available March 18 at the Union Box Office.
Wisconsin Singers, Madhatters team up for kids
The Wisconsin Singers team up with the Madhatters to put on a spectacular song-and-dance event to raise money for the American Family Children's Hospital Foundation. Cost: $18 general, $10 seniors and students. 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, in the Wisconsin Union Theater.

Represent the university as an information or tour guide
Visitor and Information Programs and the Office of Admissions are looking for outgoing and enthusiastic students to represent the university as information guides and tour guides this summer or fall. The starting salary is $8 per hour with opportunities for advancement up to $12. Applications are available at http://www.vip.wisc.edu and are due April 9.
