University increases Halloween alternatives
In partnership with the Wisconsin Union Directorate and the Associated Students of Madison, the university will increase the number of opportunities for students to participate in off-State Street events during the upcoming Halloween weekend, Friday-Saturday, Oct. 27-28.
Participate in ASM fall elections
Interim Dean of Students Lori Berquam encourages all students to play an active role in shared governance by voting in next week's Associated Students of Madison fall elections. The administration takes no formal position on specific measures, but Berquam encourages students to learn more and vote. Paper-ballot polling will take place from noon-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 18 and 19, at Wendt Library, College Library, Gordon Commons and Holt Commons.
ODOS looks to future with new vision
The Offices of the Dean of Students is engaging in a new, long-term effort to increase the number and depth of connections between student life and the academic side of the university.

UHS Health Tip: UHS counseling helps with many issues
University Health Services' Counseling and Consultation Services offers group counseling on relationships, anxiety, career goals and more. Meditation and beginning yoga groups are also available. Groups bring together a number of students sharing a common concern to provide an opportunity for support, skill building and personal growth. Groups typically meet one or two hours weekly and may run from four to 12 weeks per semester. Visit the Web site for a full listing of groups.
Students fight hunger with hunger
Students will go hungry to fight hunger as part of the Muslim Student Association's fourth annual Fast-a-thon on Thursday, Oct. 12. The event, which is during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, is a way for Muslim and non-Muslim students to come together for the holiday and also raise awareness of hunger in the Madison area.

Workshop explores Northeast Asian nuclear security
North Korean nuclear security is a major concern for contemporary policy makers, intellectuals and international activists. Don't wait to register for fall election
Until Wednesday, Oct. 18, Madison residents can register to vote in the Nov. 7 election at any Madison fire station or Madison public library. After that date, the only place to preregister is the City Clerk's Office, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Registration is also available at residents' polling stations on the day of the election.
WiscCal outage planned on Oct. 13
The WiscCal Service Team will perform an upgrade to the next version of Oracle's calendar server, requiring an outage scheduled to last from 5 p.m. Friday-8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13-16.
Intramurals: badminton singles tournament
Entries are taken only on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 17 and 18, in the Natatorium Program Office. The single-elimination brackets are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, the entry fee is $2 per person, and the tournament features men's and women's brackets.

Thinking about pursuing an degree? Confused about how to search for the university and program that best fit your interests? Daunted by the application process? Have lunch with Peace Corps recruiters
Everything students need to know to become a Peace Corps volunteer can be learned from a recruiter at this event. Peace Corps recruiters from the Minneapolis Regional Recruiting Office will be available to answer questions in a relaxed, informal setting. Noon-1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, outside the Rathskeller entrance, Memorial Union.

Students interested in working as campus tour guides or information guides with Visitor & Information Programs (VIP) and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions should apply now for spring 2007 job openings.
