University responds to Zimmermann tragedy
In the wake of Brittany Zimermann's tragic death, Dean of Students Lori Berquam is continuing to urge students to use available safety and counseling resources. The campus community continues to remember Brittany's life and her family has established a memorial scholarship fund.
Two UW-Madison graduates land Pulitzer Prizes
A pair of alumni -- David Umhoefer, a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Walt Bogdanich, a New York Times reporter and editor -- have been awarded Pulitzer Prizes in journalism. Umhoefer won in the local reporting category, and Bogdanich, who already has two Pulitzers, won for investigative reporting.
University names vice provost for diversity, climate
Damon Williams has been named vice provost for diversity and climate, the university's chief diversity officer. He will start on Aug. 1.

Student wins annual statewide poetry contest
Undergraduate Christie Taylor took first place in an annual statewide poetry contest sponsored by Wisconsin People and Ideas magazine. Taylor will participate in a public reading at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at Avol's Bookstore along with two other winners and ten runners-up in the contest.
UW-Madison senior to compete on 'Jeopardy!'
"Jeopardy!" producers have selected Suchita Shah, a 20-year-old senior majoring in neurobiology, to represent UW-Madison in the "Jeopardy!" 2008 College Championship. Shah will join 14 other students from around the country to compete at the Kohl Center on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12. The winner will take home a grand prize of $100,000. The two-week competition will air nationally May 5-16.
Sign up for 'Wisconsin Reflections' tapings
Upcoming tapings of "Wisconsin Reflections" will feature a local politician, a coach and a Grammy winner, and audience members are needed for each program. "Wisconsin Reflections" is a television show produced by University Communications for the Big Ten Network that features alumni and friends of the university. The final three shows of the semester will be taped on Tuesday, April 15, at the Wisconsin Public Television studios in 2000 Vilas Hall. Audience members should expect their time commitment to be just under 90 minutes. Interested students should e-mail audience@uc.wisc.edu.

Filmmaker to give Human Rights and Democracy Lecture
Award-winning filmmaker, producer and screenwriter Pierre Sauvage will deliver the Mildred Fish-Harnack Human Rights and Democracy Lecture. Sauvage's address, "Did Americans Fight the Holocaust?" will take place at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, in the Wisconsin Historical Society Auditorium, 816 State St. Sauvage's 1989 documentary "Weapons of the Spirit" will screen at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 14, in the Browsing Library at Memorial Union.
Distinguished Lecture Series features Karl-Henrik Robert
Karl-Henrik Robert is one of Sweden's foremost cancer scientists as well as founder of The Natural Step, a framework for communities to approach social, ecological and economic sustainability. 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, Music Hall. No tickets are required to attend.
Sexual Assault Awareness event addresses rape, racism, healing
As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Aishah Shahidah Simmons, an African-American feminist lesbian and award-winning documentary filmmaker, writer and activist, will visit campus Wednesday and Thursday, April 16 and 17, to help draw attention to the issues of sexual assault, homophobia and racism. Libraries sponsor student forum on free culture movement
The culture of sharing made possible by the technologies of the Internet is the focus of a UW-Madison Libraries symposium. The event will address questions of what is legal and what rights and responsibilities students have in file sharing, sampling, open-access publishing and other sharing activities. 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, TITU Memorial Union.
Sexual Health Week returns to campus
The student organization Sex Out Loud presents its annual Sexual Health Week with many events taking place through Friday, April 11. The theme of this year's event is "Asking for a name: OPTIONAL. Asking for consent: REQUIRED."

Wiscontrepreneur '100-Hour Challenge' back for second year
Anyone who is a creative thinker, a risk taker, an artist, a social activist or an entrepreneur with a big idea should enter the Wiscontrepreneur 100-hour Challenge to win cash prizes. Participants will see if they have what it takes to be an entrepreneur as they attempt to turn $10 into a great idea in 100 hours. The contest starts at 6 p.m. on April 17.
Campus Area Housing office advertises summer sublets
Current tenants who wish to advertise their sublets with an online listing may do so for only $14. Campus Area Housing Listing Service provides free search services of area homes and apartments, rooms to rent and units to share.

The CCAS Spring Advising Fair features advisors from CALS, Education, Engineering, Human Ecology, L&S and Cross-College Advising Service, who will be on hand for quick pre-registration consultations. The consultations are brief and many students are expected, so come prepared with student ID, specific questions, and a What-If DARS or transcript. 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 14, Main Lounge, Ogg Hall.

The Career and Internship Connection is the last great opportunity of the semester to network with employers, research various careers and positions, or find a job or internship. Kinesiology Club to host Annual Poker Run/Walk
The Kinesiology Club's popular 5K Poker Run/Walk will be held on Thursday, April 17, starting at 6 p.m. in front of the Natatorium. Each participant draws three cards at registration, then draws the two final cards upon crossing the finish line. The grand prize goes to the participant with the highest poker hand, not the fastest time. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Natatorium, and the race begins at 6 p.m. The entry fee for pre-registration online is $10, and the fee at the door is $12. Proceeds benefit the Madison Area Special Olympics and the Kinesiology Club of UW-Madison, and the entry fee includes a T-shirt, food, beverages and a DJ. The event will take place rain or shine.
