Students get a rare glimpse into mental illness
The 19 students in Beyond Myth and Cruelty: An Overview of Serious Mental
Illness, a special First-Year Interest Group at UW-Madison, are working
five hours a week this semester at Off the Square, a club that serves approximately
150 folks with chronic mental illness each year, providing a safe haven
for them to pass the time.

Dirty Dozen Brass Band to perform
World-renowned New Orleans performers The Dirty Dozen Brass Band will give a concert
on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 8.p.m. in the Memorial Union's Great Hall. Tickets -- $10 for
students, $15 all others -- will be available at the Union Theater Box Office on Monday,
Nov. 4. Box Office hours are 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays and noon-5 p.m. on Saturdays.
Tickets will also be available at the door. Box office: 262-2201.
Jagger retrospective at Elvehjem
A large retrospective, "The Art of Gillian Jagger," will open
at the Elvehjem Museum on Saturday, Nov. 23, and remain on view through
Jan. 19.

WAA to host Badger Huddle Nov. 9
The Wisconsin Alumni Association is hosting a special Badger Huddle event
on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 8:30 a.m. before the Wisconsin football game against
Illinois. Attendees will enjoy a "Wisconsin-style" buffet, games
and a chance to win raffle prizes. The entire Madison community is invited.

Train to be a tutor
Students interested in getting training as tutors can attend free sessions hosted
by the Morgridge Center for Public Service on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 4-7:15 p.m.
at the Memorial Union. Sessions offered include: "Basics of Literacy Tutoring:
Kindergarten Through Third Grade," "Tutoring Middle School Math," "Motivating
Reluctant Learners" and "Tutoring Middle School English as a Second Language."
