Dawn Crim named new special assistant for community relations

Dawn Crim has been selected from a national search process to lead community relations initiatives for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, effective Jan. 1, 2009, Chancellor Carolyn "Biddy" Martin announced today.
- Record 122,000 callers seek help from Quit Line to stop smoking Dec. 17, 2008 University of Wisconsin and state health officials announce a record-breaking 39,000 calls to the state’s Tobacco Quit Line in 2008 and celebrated the Quit Line fielding 122,000 calls in its seven-year history. Smokers are encouraged to call 1-800-QUIT-NOW to get the support they need in quitting in the year ahead.

- ‘Once Upon a Christmas Cheery’ to be broadcast in December Nov. 19, 2008 All tickets for the 39th annual “Once Upon a Christmas Cheery in the Lab of Shakhashiri” have been distributed, but the program will be broadcast on Wisconsin Public Television.
- Madison kids 'trick or treat' with campus Greeks Oct. 27, 2008 University of Wisconsin-Madison fraternities and sororities will again host "Trick or Treat with the Greeks," a unique opportunity for area children to experience a fun and safe Halloween on campus, from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
- Centro Hispano, Schools of Hope to recruit campus tutors Thursday Oct. 7, 2008 The Centro Hispano tutoring program will have an informational booth in library mall from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. this Thursday for interested UW-Madison students. There will also be tutor training and sign-up for the Schools of Hope tutoring program Thursday evening in the Union from 2:30 p.m.-5 p.m. The programs give students of all educational backgrounds the chance to tutor pre-school to high school level children.
- Center seeks collaboration to develop new leaders Sept. 24, 2008 The new Center for Nonprofits, launched in May, plans for degree programs, research, and continuing education and outreach efforts to strengthen the nonprofit sector and its leadership. The center, housed in the School of Human Ecology, is now seeking faculty, staff and student affiliates from across campus.
- WAA, Competitive Wisconsin gain grant to launch employee recruitment partnership Sept. 22, 2008 A new partnership of the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) and Competitive Wisconsin Inc. (CWI) will encourage University of Wisconsin-Madison graduates to return to Wisconsin to live and work. The partnership is funded in part by a $25,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce.

Cream puffs and the giant slide aside, the Wisconsin State Fair is a great venue for learning new things about the world — making it an ideal spot for UW-Madison to settle in for a day. On Wednesday, Aug. 6, the university did just that by bringing a sampling of science, music and athletics to the citizens of the state during UW-Madison Day at the Fair.
