- Nursing dean Prock dies Jan. 13, 2004 Valencia Prock, dean of the School of Nursing from 1970 until 1984, died Dec. 18, in Madison.
- Former Hillel director dies Dec. 9, 2003 Human rights champion, master teacher and former executive director of Hillel, Irving Saposnik, died Nov. 20 of a particularly aggressive brain tumor. He was 67.
- Mabel R. Hokin dies Aug. 26, 2003 Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry Mabel R. Hokin died Aug. 17. An internationally recognized biochemist, Hokin was most well-known for her discovery, along with Lowell Hokin, of receptor-stimulated lipid turnover in the 1950s, which led to the understanding of how hormones and neurotransmitters produce cell responses. She was also an early proponent of the biochemical basis of mental illness.
- Distinguished professor Taylor dies Feb. 11, 2003 Retired journalism professor Robert Taylor died on Dec. 27, 2002, at the age of 86 of complications from a stroke. A memorial reception will be held on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 2-4 p.m. at the Monona Terrace Convention Center. Remarks and reminiscences will begin at 2:30 p.m.
- Distinguished psychologist Robert Goy dies at 74 Jan. 26, 1999 Robert W. Goy, administrator, educator and pioneering investigator of the origins of sex differences in behavior, died Jan. 14 from cardiovascular and metabolic complications. He would have been 75 on Jan. 25.
