Biochemist Har Gobind Khorana, who received the Nobel Prize for research he conducted while at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, died Wednesday, Nov. 9 in Concord, Mass. at age 89.
- Torphy memorial scheduled for Nov. 10 Nov. 1, 2011 A memorial event has been scheduled for the late John Torphy, former UW–Madison vice chancellor for administration. It will be held Thursday, Nov. 10 from 3-6 p.m. in Great Hall of the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St., Madison.
- Gregory Hedden explored the possibilities of sustainable mining in the Great Lakes Oct. 25, 2011 Gregory Dexter Hedden, with the Wisconsin Sea Grant College Program, provided advisory and technical support to the nascent Great Lakes mining industry spawned by those discoveries. Hedden died on Monday, Oct. 17, in Madison at age 92.
