The nine athletes, two of whom are also coaches, are staying in Madison until Dec. 15 as part of a unique exchange with Beijing Sports University, the foremost sports, physical education and exercise science institution in China. During the fall semester at UW-Madison, the group will be taking classes in English as a Second Language and the Department of Kinesiology, as well as internships focusing on training, coaching and events management.

During the speech, the Morgridges' spoke of building lifelong relationships and pledged to match each gift -- ranging from $20.11 to $120.11 -- made by a member of the graduating senior class to the university through the end of 2011. The Saturday morning event honored bachelor's and master's degrees from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, School of Education, Gaylord Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, School of Human Ecology, School of Medicine and Public Health, School of Nursing, and School of Pharmacy.

The guest presenter for a private scientific meeting earlier in the day, His Holiness, who received an honorary degree from the university in 1998, has taken great interest in UW-Madison's research regarding the effects of meditation and similar practices on brain function, emotions and physical health. This is the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize winner's sixth visit to UW-Madison.

Scott Walker that would give the university additional flexibilities and distinguish it as a public authority. Called the New Badger Partnership (NBP) and discussed extensively during the past year, the plan would allow for the use of more efficient management practices and innovation in tuition, personnel policies, facilities management and purchasing.
