Registration opens for ‘Building a Sustainable Self’ conference

October 23, 2014

The Madison Student Personnel Association (SPA) will host its annual conference Thursday, Oct. 30, at Union South with the theme “Building a Sustainable Self.”

By promoting sustainability — relating to self-care, as well as creative approaches in education that ready students to step into their role as civic and workplace leaders upon graduation — the conference will offer opportunities for participants to pursue their work with a healthier, more strategic focus.

The conference is scheduled to run from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All members of the campus community are encouraged to attend, particularly those who work or are interested in student affairs and student engagement outside of a formal classroom setting.

Becci Menghini, chief of staff in the Office of the Chancellor at UW–Madison, will deliver the morning keynote address that further highlights the conference’s theme. Menghini’s career has included several aspects of higher education administration including development, alumni involvement and campus relations.

Rob Sepich from UW–Madison’s University Health Services will present the lunch keynote. Sepich will discuss practical wellness suggestions that take neither a lot of time nor effort but have been shown to help improve health.

Founded by UW–Madison staff, SPA is a Madison-area association of current and aspiring higher education professionals that facilitates collaboration and networking to support one another and enhance the student experience.

The cost is $50 professional/$25 student for SPA members and $65 professional/$30 student for non SPA members. The conference includes breakfast and lunch. Registration deadline is Monday, Oct. 27.
