University Housing director finalists chosen

The next leader of the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Division of Housing will be chosen from among finalists visiting campus during the next few weeks.

“The search and screen committee has selected an impressive group of finalists. I look forward to having them on campus for interviews, and I encourage all members of our campus community to participate in the robust public presentation process” says Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Darrell Bazzell.

The finalists, listed in order of their campus visits and public presentations, include:

Frankie Minor, director of residential life at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has served in this position for the last 20 years. Presentation: Wednesday, April 30 at 1:45 p.m. in the Main Lounge of Ogg Hall.

Rick Gibson, director of residential programs and services at the University of Georgia. He has served in this position for the last 14 years. Presentation: Friday, May 2 at 1:45 p.m. in the Main Lounge of Ogg Hall

Brian Ward, communications and residential operations director in UW–Madison’s Division of University Housing. He has served in that role for the last two years. Before that, he was residence life and student housing director at the University of New Mexico. Presentation: Wednesday, May 7 at 1:45 p.m. the Overture Room of the Gordon Dining and Event Center.

Jeff Novak, director of housing operations and residence life at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He has served in this position for the last three years. Prior to this position, Novak was associate director of university housing at UCF. Presentation: Thursday, May 8 at 1:45 p.m. in the Sonata Room of the Gordon Dining and Event Center.

Abeer Mustafa, director of housing and residence life at Winston-Salem State University. Mustafa has served in that position since 2012. Prior to that, she served as assistant director of facilities and conference service and assistant director of residential life and housing at the University of Houston from 2009-12. Presentation: Friday, May 9, at 1:45 p.m. in the Overture Room of the Gordon Dining and Event Center.

One finalist announced earlier, Lisa Beth Bergene, associate dean of housing, dining and residence life at Duke University, withdrew her name.

Presentations will be recorded for viewing by those who cannot attend. Individuals may submit feedback on one or all of the finalists online at the site, as well.

The director of the Division of University Housing is responsible for leading, planning and directing the complete operations of university housing which include undergraduate residence halls, graduate apartment housing, and dining operations, reporting to the vice chancellor for finance and administration.

The person chosen will succeed the retiring Paul Evans, who has worked for the disvision for 36 years, including the last 16 years as director.

The finalists were recommended by a 13-member search committee, chaired by Steve Amundson, director of Campus and Visitor Relations.
